First 4x All-American-Philosopher

James Vercammen is the first 4x All-American to complete the B.A. requirements in Philosophy at the University of Dayton. He was appointed to the first-level All-American Team by the American Football Coaches Association and is UD’s 10th such All-American, the first since 2004. Mr. Vercammen was also chosen for All-American teams of the Associated Press, Phil Steele’s College Football, and Sports Network/Fathead.com. He had 100 tackles in 2010, 57 alone. While a few philosophers are jealous of his 215,000 hits on Google, we want to underline his philosophical performance in seminars on Recent Conceptions of Justice and Aristotle’s De Anima, as well as his work in an upper level course on Kant and 19th Century Philosophy. In his most recent DDN interview, the department assumes that Mr. Vercammen was speaking of his very rigorous study of philosophy, “I’m a tough guy and not afraid of anyone. It doesn’t matter what school they came from and how big they are.” We wish him the very best in the upcoming NFL draft.
